Trader Joe’s Chicken Tikka Masala Review – Trader Joe’s describes this frozen entree as: Roasted Chicken Breast Prepared with a Robust Cream Sauce and Cumin-Flavored Basmati Rice. I call this the best damn frozen meal I’ve ever had.

I started shopping at Trader Joe’s a few months ago after seeing quite a few bloggers praising Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Rice. The fact that this frozen Cauliflower rice was so hard to get your hands on made it like a game to me. Would I be one of the lucky ones to score the coveted Cauliflower Rice?

My first Trader Joe’s trip was overwhelming. I grabbed a basket at the door, stepped inside the store, and immediately was overwhelmed as there were people streaming about everywhere. They all seemed to be on a mission: to get through the store as quickly as possible while I was there to meander the isles. I walked away with two containers of reduced guilt frozen macaroni and cheese, frozen turkey sausage breakfast burritos, and bananas. Back in the safety of my car, I told myself I would attempt to shop at Trader Joe’s again- just not at peak hours.

Fast forward a few Trader Joe’s trips and I am hooked. This weekend, I browsed the frozen food section and spotted a lone frozen Trader Joe’s Chicken Tikka Masala. I grabbed it thinking that if its the last one left, then it must be good. This afternoon, I heated it up for a delicious, quick lunch.

This frozen Tikka Masala tastes just like the best indian takeout i’ve ever ordered. The familiar indian seasonings are all there with just a hint of spice. The chicken was perfectly tender with a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The cumin-flavored Basmati rice was delicious, it was perfectly cooked. There is plenty of sauce to mix in with your rice or to dip naan into.

My only complaint with this frozen entree is the small size. It comes with only three large pieces of chicken in it. I needed a knife to cut up those large pieces making them substantial in size. For a lunch, it is the perfect size. For dinner, you might want to steam up some extra rice or warm up some naan to create a more substantial meal.

If you are looking for a quick meal you cannot go wrong with Trader Joe’s Chicken Tikka Masala. While there are Indian restaurants that can beat this with fresh ingredients, the price tag will also reflect that. At only $3.99, Trader Joe’s Chicken Tikka Masala is the best frozen entree I have ever eaten.
